Woman alleges gang rape in auto-rickshaw

The police initially registered a case of murder based on the woman's complaint but it was only later, over the weekend, that she told the police that she was also raped.

According to the 23-year-old woman, she was going to her parents' house in Khandsa village here around midnight on May 29 with her daughter after an argument with her husband. Her destination was Khandsa road, where her in-laws live, but they took her back to Manesar, where they raped her and killed her child.

The men began harassing the woman as soon as she sat down, Khirwar said. Now, she is alleging gang rape. Reports say when she resisted and her daughter started crying, they threw the infant out of the vehicle due to which the baby succumbed to injuries, a Gurgaon police official said.

The incident happened on May 29 in Gurgaon, on the outskirts of New Delhi.

Sandeep Khirwar, a police chief confirmed today that the incident occurred in the suburb of Gurgaon in the vehicle where the suspects laid in wait.

It has been alleged that as the victim belongs to a poor family, the police tried to suppress her statement. On Tuesday, a day after TOI reported the crime and the police drew criticism for dragging their feet in a case so outrageous, probationary sub-inspector Suman Sura was suspended and a special investigation team (SIT) formed to nab the three killers and rapists. The victim has said that her husband had a fight with their neighbour and left the house.

As the victim was alone, the three accused in the auto offered her a lift and then gang-raped her.

She alleged that the accused started molesting her as soon as she boarded the auto.
