Trump suggests border wall with solar panels

Less than a week after pulling the USA out of the Paris climate agreement, Trump told congressional leaders he is exploring the idea of attaching solar panels to a wall he wants to build along the southern border, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise confirmed to reporters. Trump said the electricity generated by the panels could help offset the expense of the wall, the news sites reported, which the Department of Homeland Security has estimated will cost more than $21 billion.

"I think it's innovative", House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., told the paper.

Solar panels and other forms of green energy are popular among those who strongly opposed Trump's decision to withdraw the US from the Paris accord, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Building a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border was a staple of Trump rallies throughout the 2016 campaign. Let's hope he doesn't want the wall itself to be electric.

President Trump could sign executive orders to ban refugees build Mexico wall
Trump in February had signed executive orders to build the Mexico border wall to keep illegal immigrants at bay

Trump has insisted that Mexico will pay for the wall's construction - something Mexican officials have repeatedly denied - but has acknowledged that taxpayers may need to initially foot the bill before being repaid.

Trump said he would be willing to revisit getting money for the wall in September.

The White House didn't immediately return a request for comment.
