Murray eases past Khachanov into quarterfinals

Radwanska had won seven of their eight previous matches, including the only one on clay — at the French Open nine years ago — but was never in contention this time.

After a torrid build-up to the tournament when he could not buy a victory followed by scratchy four-set victories in the opening two rounds, Murray has timed his return to form perfectly, taking down former U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets, then ousting Khachanov.

Wawrinka, owner of three major championships in all, will play for a quarterfinal berth against No. 15 Gael Monfils or No. 24 Richard Gasquet, a pair of Frenchmen whose third-round match was interrupted by rain in the first set Saturday.

After the set, a distraught Del Potro slumped over the net in agony for more nearly a minute.

HawkEye - used by TV companies but not the tournament - showed that the officials were right, and Del Potro's angst surely mostly stemmed from the knowledge that with that set went his chances.

Working things out tactically and making adjustments during matches gives me confidence, so that's been a real positive for me over the last couple of matches.

Murray made only one unforced error in the first set, won 75 percent of his second-serve points and clinically took advantage every time the 21-year-old Khachanov was betrayed by his lack of Grand Slam experience. "It's irrelevant. What's relevant is what happens, you know, during the points".

The loss of the opening set seemed to deflate Del Potro, and Murray won 7-6 (8) 7-5 6-0 to advance to the fourth round at Roland Garros.

Other Top 10 winners were No. 3 Stan Wawrinka handling No. 28 Fabio Fognini 7-6 (2), 6-0, 6-2, and No. 7 Marin Cilic rolling past Feliciano Lopez 6-1, 6-3, 6-3. "I'm really happy with the way I played today", Halep said.

She eased past Russian 14th seed Elena Vesnina 6-4, 6-4 in a match which featured a 17-minute service game, punctuated by 11 deuces, for the Russian in the second set.

FACT OF THE DAY: The courts at Roland Garros are not made of clay, but get their distinctive red colour from red brick dust.

The unseeded Cornet was a surprisingly easy victor over No. 9 Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland, 6-2, 6-1, while No. 28 Garcia edged Hsieh Su-wei of Taiwan 6-4, 4-6, 9-7.

The second-seeded Pliskova hit 34 winners as she raced to a 7-5, 6-1 victory in 70 minutes.

"It can only take one or two good practices and things can turn around very quickly".

South Africa's Kevin Anderson matched his best run at Roland Garros by reaching the last 16 on Saturday with a five-set win over Britain's Kyle Edmund.

Svitolina plays 2014 runner-up Halep, who defeated No. 21 Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1, 6-1.

However, Cornet admitted that her relationship with Garcia has virtually broken down.

Garcia fell out with her teammates earlier this year after she pulled out of a Fed Cup tie. The third arrive at 7-6 in the tiebreaker - the excruciating double-fault.
