Hawaii Signs Legislation To Implement Goals Of Paris Climate Accord Anyway

Brown says he believes the White House will come around soon.

He said California's government speaks highly of and will actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.

Brown signed an agreement with China that seeks to improve cooperation in electric vehicles, Wan Gang, minister of science and technology, said Tuesday at the International Forum on Electric Vehicle Pilot Cities and Industrial Development in Beijing.

Hawaii is part of the US Climate Alliance, an entity created last week by the governors of California, New York and Washington state to share information, environmental best practices and implement new programs "to reduce carbon emissions from all sectors of the economy".

If nothing else, it conveyed the message the United States was committed to its rhetoric in being a global leader in climate change mitigation.

In a sign of solidarity with the global effort to combat climate change, Hawaii became the first state in the U.S. to pass laws enforcing portions of the Paris Climate Accord.

“It is imperative that the world know that in the U.S., the actors that will provide the leadership necessary to meet our Paris commitment are found in city halls, state capitals, colleges and universities, investors and businesses.

Participating cities and states represent 120 million Americans and contribute US$6.2 trillion to the USA economy, and include New York, Los Angeles and Houston as well as smaller cities such as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Dubuque, Iowa.

Contrary to the flood of insults directed at the Trump administration, the U.S.is not the bad actor on the world stage when it comes to environmental protection.

"The selfish act of the US does not only have grave consequences for the global efforts to protect the environment but poses great danger to other areas as well", a spokesman for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, according to state news agency KCNA. Jerry Brown, who said his "state is ready for battle" against Trump's "misguided and insane course of action".

The decision left the U.S.as one of only three countries that aren't part of the accord, alongside Syria and Nicaragua.

"Utah is warming at twice the global average, and our drinking water is at risk", said Biskupsi, saying she was acting "for the well-being of the planet I'm leaving to my sons and your children".

California and China are joining forces in the fight against climate change. A few efforts, such as a reduction on methane emissions introduced by the Obama administration, could be overturned more easily. Trump argued that the Paris agreement favours emerging economies such as China's and India's at the expense of United States workers.

An open letter published on the new coalition's website, wearestillin.com, declared that Mr. Trump's decision is "out of step with what is happening in the United States".

We should have learned by now that with foreign nations, you always have to watch what they do, not listen to what they say.
