Aamir Khan's Dangal crosses Rs. 1800 cr at the worldwide box office

The movie released worldwide on April 28, 2017. But then records are meant to be broken and Baahubali 2 is no exception.

The Aamir Khan starrer has continued to keep the cash registers ringing in its fifth week.

With this Dangal has now become the first Indian film to achieve this benchmark of collecting well over Rs. 1800 cr at the global box office.

As of the 4 June 2017 weekend, the top ranked films at the Chinese box office were Wonder Woman (with $38 million in its opening weekend collection), followed by Pirates of the Caribbean and Dangal.

The movie released on December 21, 2016 in the US. #Taiwan - Rs 36.50 crore. Released in China as Shuai Jiao Baba ("Let's Wrestle, Dad") on May 5 in around 7,000 screens.

While Baahubali 2 will release in China in coming July, Dangal's licence has been extended in China till July 4. It was the first Indian film to be screened in the festival. The worldwide collection of the Prabhas starrer has crossed the Rs 1,700 crore mark. Dangal is definitely emerging as a victor in the race for Rs 2000 crore mark.

Aamir Khan's film packed with strong content and backed with themes like feminism and nationalism is a rage in the country and its one-month extension was a proof. It has amassed $169.06 million in a record 31 days overtaking Kong: Skull Island with a collection of $168.18 million to retain the second spot at China box office this year. The film has resonated with the Chinese audience as many in China see the movie as a triumph for female empowerment.
