The reigning coach of the year had been absent since Game 3 of the Warriors first round series against the Portland Trail Blazers due to pain and discomfort caused by complications from a back surgery he underwent two years ago.
Draymond Green admitted on Sunday that he felt responsible for the Golden State Warriors losing the championship last season to the Cleveland Cavaliers after he was suspended for Game 5 following an incident with LeBron James.
The Warriors had just four turnovers in Game 1 - a figure James alone doubled - but that increased to 20 on Monday, with Kerr making it clear he will not accept a repeat performance when the series continues at Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday.
The Warriors have done a great job limiting Kyrie Irving, who is shooting 40% from the field in the Finals, and they have made it clear they don't want the Irving-James combo beating them.
"I thought for the most part with the game plan that we had we tried to execute it as close as possible", James said.
Midseason acquisitions Kyle Korver and Deron Williams have failed to make their anticipated impact, with Williams being held scoreless through two games while Korver followed up a zero-point opener with eight points but has been a liability defensively.
The Warriors blocked seven shots, including five by Durant, who became just the third player since 1984 to have a 30-point, 10-rebound, five-block game in the NBA Finals.
No pressure. Game 3 is Wednesday in Cleveland.
Curry seized command in the third quarter with 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists as the Warriors stretched a 67-64 half-time lead to 102-88 entering the fourth quarter.
Golden State came within one win of a title repeat before LeBron James sparked the Cavaliers to the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history, rallying from 3-1 down to claim the 2016 crown. "They won their first two games like they're supposed to". He may have forced some twos trying to get going, but he's not anxious about that. We don't throw away Jordan's Bulls despite the ugly, hyper-physical style everyone played then. And with two more wins they will etch their names not only as champions, but as maybe the greatest champions of all time, even if it will undeniably be a debate worthy of having. "When we're going off and coming off into isolation, they're bringing a few extra bodies to crowd the lane". "And we're a full group when he's out here, so that means a lot". Between both starting squads, Smith has easily been the worst player on the floor. "Kyrie knows what he's capable of in this building, in the league, at our building". And we forced them into 20 turnovers, and they still beat us pretty good. Kevin Love had 27 points and Kyrie Irving 19.
They're a team with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the Cavs' throat, at least for now. And if Thompson's shot is falling like it did in Game 2 there may be no answer.
"They're a different team", James said, referring to Durant.
