Rodriguez slipped off the mound during the latter stage of his warmup for Thursday night's start against the Baltimore Orioles.
Tillman, who was making his sixth start since coming off the DL, allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and four walks over six innings.
"Yeah, I mean it sucks", Benintendi said. It remains possible that he will be able to return in a couple weeks after missing one or two turns in the rotation, but more should be known following his visit with Dr. Andrews.
Asked how Benintendi reacted to the slump, Farrell said, "The same guy that came up past year and had success and even swung the bat well in the postseason". Seeking his first win since April 14, the lefty did not allow a runner past first base after the second inning. "It's just a tough lane to throw through", he said. David Ortiz's replacement Mitch Moreland is now on pace to hit 18 home runs this season which would leave him four short of last seasons 22 home runs he hit.
Sale only had allowed one hit during the first inning entering Sunday, but the O's got to the left-hander with two outs in the frame.
The Orioles used the long ball to build a 7-1 lead in the sixth inning - then held on.
By the time Price walked off the mound in the eighth inning - having to leave a runner on first after Christian Vazquez dropped a third strike against Jonathan Schoop - the starter had offered the kind of image some didn't think would be possible this season.
"We're neck-and-neck with this team, and this division is going to be bunched up for the foreseeable future", said Boston manager John Farrell, whose team gained the split after dropping the first two games.
ROYALS 12, INDIANS 5: In Kansas City, Missouri, Lorenzo Cain capped a six-run fifth inning with a two-run homer and Jason Hammel settled down after a shaky start as Kansas City routed Cleveland. He scored three runs in his first multihomer game.
Red Sox: Rick Porcello (3-6, 4.21 ERA) will start Friday night, looking to regain his 2016 Cy Young Award form after giving up 11 hits in each of his last two outings. "So we decided it was the best thing to do", Dombrowski said Friday. Kluber was 18-9 with a 3.14 ERA last season and went 4-1 with a 1.83 ERA in six postseason starts. Pedroia was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday.
