"Obviously there was a awful tragedy in London", Murray said. Paris has also had some problems in the last one or two years. I'm sure everybody will share in thoughts and prayers for everyone who's been affected by this. "I appreciate everyone still coming out to support the tennis and create a fantastic atmosphere, and I'm grateful I can come out and perform in front of them".
Murray made only one unforced error in the first set, won 75 percent of his second-serve points and clinically took advantage every time the 21-year-old Khachanov was betrayed by his lack of grand slam experience.
Having entered the tournament with doubts surrounding his form and fitness, Murray has improved the more time he has spent on court and needed just over two hours to seal a showdown with eighth seed Kei Nishikori, who beat Spain's Fernando Verdasco in four sets.
PARIS (AP) - For all of the tumult in the French Open women's draw and the unfamiliar names filling the quarterfinal slots, the men's tournament has been much more about the usual suspects: Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Stan Wawrinka and, of course, Rafael Nadal. The Swiss goes on to face Croatian seventh seed Marin Cilic for a spot in the semi-finals.
Nishikori reached his 7th Grand Slam quarterfinal with his win over Verdasco and has made the last eight in Paris for the second time.
- Third-seed Simona Halep beat Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals.
Murray said, of the match up: "Lost against him at US Open".
Earlier, third-seeded Simona Halep and fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina advanced and will face each other in the quarterfinals.
Paris - Tennis legends John McEnroe and Goran Ivanisevic reckon Andy Murray has a good chance of making the final at Roland Garros. "I sill feel the ankle some times but I am able to run".
He added that he thinks "quite probably" the semifinals will be No. 1 vs. "Yeah, I've come a long way the last 10 days or so".
But Nishikori famously dumped the 2012 US Open champion out in NY a year ago after rallying from sets to one down.
Number 28 seed Caroline Garcia defeated Alize Cornet 6-2 6-4 in an all-French fourth-round clash and will meet second-seeded Czech Karolina Pliskova in the quarter-final.
Murray took on the unseeded Karen Khachanov for his Round of 16 matchup and won it in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Cepede Royg, ranked 97 in the world, is only the second Paraguayan to make the fourth round of a major. He was a runner-up at Wimbledon in 2010 and reached his highest ranking of No 4 previous year.
He has also reached the quarter-finals of Lyon last week before losing to the eventual champion, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
