Later on in the day, Orlando police officials got a positive identification on the gunman, naming him as John Robert Neumann Jr., a 45-year-old disgruntled ex-employee who was sacked by Fiamma in April.
Five people have been killed in a shooting at a workplace in Orlando, Florida.
The Orange County sheriff's office says it hopes to identify the gunman in a workplace shooting near Orlando at its next briefing this afternoon.
The 45-year-old suspect was armed with a handgun and knife when he entered a business called Fiamma, which describes itself as one of the world's largest manufacturers of awnings for recreational vehicles. The male was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he passed away from the wounds.
The person suspected of the shooting, a 45-year-old man who was sacked from his job there in April, had fatally shot himself, Mr. Demings said. Four died at the scene in addition to the accused gunman, John R. Neuman, Jr., who officials said shot himself in the head. That mass shooting killed 49 people and injured dozens of others.
Police said he had walked into the offices through a back door as his former colleagues were arriving for work at around 8:00 am (1200 GMT) on Monday and opened fire, reloading his gun at least once. However, in 2014, police did respond to the same business after the subject battered a fellow employee.
Monday morning, he pointed his gun at a new, temporary employee and told her to leave, Demings said. "We can't get a hold of him", she said.
Anderson said he couldn't believe the news, especially since Neumann didn't seem to be blaming anyone for his termination. Her sister was in the restroom when she heard a noise, Adams told reporters.
Police have not named the dead gunman, 45, but say he has no ties to terror or subversive groups.
The have been identified as Robert Snyder, 69; Brenda Montanez-Crespo, 44; Kevin Clark, 53; Kevin Lawson, 46; and Jeffrey Roberts, 57.
Demings said Neumann lived alone and did not have family in the area.
The shooting comes just one week before the first anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, in which 49 people were killed, one of the worst mass shootings in USA history.
"The city of Orlando, which is still healing from the Pulse massacre, has seen too much violence this past year", the Florida Democrat said in a statement. "I ask all Floridians to pray for the families impacted by this senseless act of violence".
Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs and Sheriff Jerry Demings spoke to the media and public shortly after 11:00 a.m. The co-worker he allegedly beat up three years ago was not among the victims Monday, the sheriff added.
The sheriff's office calls the situation "contained and stable", WFTV says.
Adams said McIntyre was in a bathroom and saw someone on the floor when she got out.
The shooting remains under investigation.
Authorities closed the road near the scene and have urged motorists to "use caution". "My boss is dead, '" Adams said.
