One of the attackers shouted "this is for Allah" as he knifed a man near a pub - while the Islamic State terror group is claiming responsibility for the attack. He lived in a block of flats with his wife and two young children which was raided by police early on Sunday.

Controlled explosions were carried out at the property in Barking during the raids on Sunday morning.

Seven people died on Saturday and dozens were injured, 21 of them critically, in the attack.

Four police officers who tried to stop the attack were among those injured, two of them seriously.

London Bridge itself reopened in a limited capacity on Monday morning, for exit-only traffic, while parts of Borough High Street and Borough Market remained closed, as well as Montague Close and Stoney Street. Seven people were killed and at least 48 others were sent to hospital. Police have responded to reports of a van hitting pedestrians on London Bridge in central London.

The white Renault van used was recently hired by one of the attackers, Mr Rowley said.

Britain will vote in a national election on Thursday, just days after terrorists killed seven people and injured almost 50 in the heart of London on Saturday night, the third attack in Britain in less than three months. She said it was "time to say enough is enough" and end the UK's "tolerance" of extremism.

Jeremy Corbyn addressed crowds in Middlesbrough.

He added that the U.S. would do everything it could to assist the United Kingdom to catch those responsible.

The brutal reality is that this kind of threat is absolutely typical of what jihadists sought to achieve in all their attacks across Europe. That followed a similar attack in March on Westminster Bridge, near the Houses of Parliament.
