Apple teases iMac Pro for $5000

However, what's more interesting is the new iMac Pro, an entirely new workstation-class product line designed for pro users.

"With major updates to iMac, and a refresh of our MacBook and MacBook Pro lines, the Mac is stronger than ever", said John Ternus, Apple's vice-president of Hardware Engineering.

Apple still positions the MacBook for people who are okay with good enough performance in a package that's easy to take on the go. All new iMacs will sport faster GPUs. They use Intels new Kaby Lake processors (which offer higher frequencies and HEVC decoding).

Apple will update the iMacs with brighter displays, higher memory capacity, fusion drives on all 27-inch models and USB-C connectors that support Thunderbolt 3 - great for your external displays. Intel Iris Graphics 640 means 80 percent better performance compared to the previous generation.

'It is incredibly satisfying to see the capabilities of Radeon Pro 500 series in elegant form factors and enabling awesome content creation, gaming and VR experiences, ' crowed Raja Koduri, senior vice president and chief architect of the Radeon Technologies Group at AMD. "It's the most powerful Mac we've ever made". You're not going to get a worthwhile VR experience on the graphics found in the current iMac, Mac Mini, or even Mac Pro.

Now for the price. The base model 21.5-inch iMac will start at $1099, while the 4K model has been dropped to $1,299. Prices start at $1099 and run all the way up to $1799. All now come armed with an Intel Kaby Lake Core i7 processor where the configurations vary.

Apple's Mac brand got a surprising amount of love during today's WWDC Keynote.

But looking at the iMac Pro from the side and the back shows that this capable computer is just like any other iMac: thin, minimalist and nearly paper thin. Note that this is just a sneak peek, the real deal will not be available until December. This beast of a device can display 1 Billion Colors! However, the internal cooling is much improved thanks to the dual centrifugal fan setup. You'll get up to Core i7, of course. More affordable 8 and 10 core options are available as well. It offers 11 TFLOPS in single precision and 22 TFLOPS in half precision - a boon for machine learning.

The iMac Pro comes out with the same design as the 27 inched iMac. For the first time ever on a Mac, iMac Pro features 10Gb Ethernet for up to 10 times faster networking.
