"The Arab Republic of Egypt chose to cut diplomatic ties with Qatar in light of the Gulf Arab state's persistence to take a path against Egypt, and the failure of any attempts to prevent it from supporting terrorist organizations, topped by the Muslim Brotherhood", said the statement.
This new severing of ties is a much bigger deal that previous ones, however, with Saudi Arabia announcing that they are closing all Qatar's border crossings, and all three nations barring air and sea travel to and from Qatar.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi's state-owned Etihad Airways announced on Monday that it was suspending all its flights to and from Qatar amid the on-going diplomatic row.
Qatar was also expelled from a Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen. "As I said before, aggression and occupation will have no result but instability", Hamid Aboutalebi, deputy chief of staff of Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, tweeted on Monday.
The most recent dispute appeared to surface after what Qatar said were fake remarks published by hackers on the official Qatar News Agency on May 24. Central Command officials and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The tiny island nation of Bahrain blamed Qatar's "media incitement, support for armed terrorist activities and funding linked to Iranian groups to carry out sabotage and spreading chaos in Bahrain" for its decision.
