But when officers spot Rodriguez's vehicle, the suspect allegedly opened fire on police. Police had been called to conduct a welfare check at her apartment.
Baeza says Rodriguez was pronounced dead at a Laredo hospital a short time later.
A total of four officers were injured Friday in an officer-involved shooting.

Baeza said shots rang out around 5 pm after three officers spotted a vehicle matching Rodriguez's SUV. Responding officers, who arrived as backup, opened fire as well. He said he didn't have conditions for the hospitalized officers, but he said one was airlifted 150 miles to San Antonio.

When the smoke cleared, three officers and the man were taken to local hospitals.
In an updated reported by the Associated Press, the two Laredo Police officers who sustained gunshot wounds during the shootout with Rodriguez are now listed in serious but stable condition at Laredo Medical Center.
'We ask the community for prayers for the officers and their families, ' Baeza said, according to the Morning Times. The airlifted officer is now in critical but stable condition at University Hospital in San Antonio.
