The man who loves to destroy all those in his path in college football and Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies appears to have some affinity for the Nashville Predators, who beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-1 in Game 3 on Saturday night to trim the Penguins' series lead to 2-1. Rookie Jake Guentzel extended his playoff-leading goal total to 13 when he corralled the rebound of a shot by Ian Cole and tapped it under Rinne, momentarily silencing the crowd. Josi took a feed from Calle Jarnkrok before firing one home on the power play passed Matt Murray to tie up the game 5:51 into the second period.
Defensively, the Pittsburgh Penguins are allowing 2.8 goals per game and are killing 79.8 percent of their power play chances.
"Decisions go into every game", Laviolette said. He's the first defenseman with three points in a Cup Final game since Duncan Keith in 2010.
Metro police have shut down portions of Broadway in downtown Nashville ahead of the city's watch party for the game Saturday.
"Those are important guys for us", Sullivan said.
Country music star Martina McBride got the honors to sing the national anthem before the first Stanley Cup Final game ever played in Nashville.
Pittsburgh leads the series 2-0.
Notes: Smith is the 18th different Nashville player to score a goal this postseason, and Ekholm became the 19th. They pressure us. First power play, we moved the puck so well, but still no shots. "He was terrific. I said that after Game 2".
"Austin did a really good chip to get the puck in the air".
"I thought we gave them a couple of freebies where we didn't force them to have to work for it and that's an area we've got to be better moving forward", Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. The three-time Vezina Trophy finalist has permitted just 13 tallies en route to winning seven of eight playoff games at Bridgestone Arena to go along with a 1.54 goals-against average and.947 save percentage.
"We've got to find a way to raise that level of desperation and be better all over the ice, so hopefully a game like this is something that's a hard lesson".
Laviolette stuck with Rinne after lots of questions about his goalie, though he did sit veterans Cody McLeod and Vern Fiddler to get more speed with Harry Zolnierczyk and P.A. Parenteau. The first one Murray saves, the second one after a neutral zone turnover by Chris Kunitz ends up on the stick of Colin Wilson and he makes no mistakes to snap it quickly past the glove of Murray to make the score 4-1. I thought we controlled the puck.
"They got some momentum when they got that power-play goal", Crosby said.
