On the eve of the high-octane ICC Champions Trophy match against Pakistan, India skipper Virat Kohli said the men-in-blue are cent percent motivated for the marquee clash besides trashing talk of any rift with head coach Anil Kumble. And that was always a massive series for myself and the team when I was the South African coach because that was the team we always liked to beat.
There has been a lockdown at the hotel of the Indian cricket team in Birmingham because of the attack while security has been stepped up for both teams. Since India and Pakistan usually play only in the ICC tournaments, millions of fans are eagerly waiting for the contest. Kohli on Saturday termed the worry about getting a ideal bowling combination in place as a "good headache" to have going into the big game against Pakistan.
Looking fairly-self assured, the Indian captain said that the squad is balanced and the players are confident.
The two sides last met in Kolkata during the World T20 past year, when hosts India outplayed Pakistan in a group match.
"In the previous year we've scored the third-most amount of 300s", he said.
"The bowlers found it hard, and that's why I think they had different feels right in the powerplay at the beginning of the game".
"They are just snapping at the heals of the top four and it is going to take performances from (Kane) Williamson (or) (Ross) Taylor and they can easily qualify into that semi-final and then it would be just two games". So it doesn't make me feel like I have to do something extra here to get something going as a captain. "And that's what we've tried to do with our attack, is offer ourselves options", he said.
"You would rather take that up as a bigger challenge that you'll have to come up with the kind of bowling that you don't play often".
"If you look, we've got a left-arm swinger (Mohammed Amir), could have left-arm pace (Wahab Riaz)", Arthur said. And that's all we can say.
"We have our plans in place, we will go with the best and do some out of box things which you haven't seen us doing against India in the past", he said. We can't just sit back and let them score. Instead, they should just enjoy the game and play like they normally do.
"India are one of the favourites". Bhuvaneswar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravi Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin have all featured for India in recent times and now they have added the promising Mohammed Shami to their pace attack.
"You know of their abilities".
"But if you have prepared properly, you will be nervous but it will be excited nervousness".
