National Donut Day, first declared in 1954 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in honor of The Salvation Army's service during World War I, has been celebrated on the first Friday of each June since.

It also commemorates the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

Krispy Kreme is one of many shops and restaurants that will be taking part in the National Doughnut Day festivities on Friday.
