National Donut Day 2017: 5 places you can score free donuts today

The pastry, which began selling at Dunkin" Donuts two days ago, is based on baker Dominque Ansel's hybrid pastry, the "cronut, ' which came to popularity in the summer of 2013.

National Donut Day celebrates 100 years since The Salvation Army Donut Lassies first started the tradition on the front lines in World War I in France.

Dunkin' Donuts: Get any free classic doughnut with a purchase of a beverage at participating Dunkin' Donuts all day Friday while supplies last.

The Salvation Army will celebrate National Donut Day, a day first established by The Salvation Army in Chicago in 1938. Receipts from June 2 will include a coupon for a buy-one-get-one half-dozen doughnuts deal.

Honey Dew Donuts: Customers will receive a free Coco Loco Donut with the purchase of any medium or larger size drink. Check your account for a bonus reward for a free doughnut with purchase of a coffee.

Another great thing about National Donut Day is that many mom-and-pop shops will also be participating. Harris Teeter: A half dozen box of glazed doughnuts will be on sale for $1.97 (normally $3.49).
