"We have never relied on one individual to win us the game and today was the ideal example".
The match was see-saw moment for the Mumbai Indians.
However, their bowlers then restricted Pune to 128 for six in response, with Dan Christian run out off the final ball as he and Washington Sundar tried to scramble the three runs required to force a super over. MI finished at top of the table in the group stages this time, just ahead of RPS. The fast bowling of Jaydev Unadkat did the damage early on.
Supergiant was left with four runs to cross the line of the last ball.
The saviour: There needed to be a hero with the bat and 26-year-old Krunal Pandya stepped up in the final for Mumbai. It was up to the Pandya brothers who consolidated the innings along with late hitting by Mitchell Johnson.
Fans, players, clubs all took to the social media platforms to share their excitement for the game in the last 24 hours of the IPL 10 season.
"Whatever we planned, whatever we executed was fantastic". In the first half, RPS bowlers, propelled by Jaydev Unadkat (2/19), provided the flawless platform by restricting the bigwigs to a below-par score of 129/8.
Mumbai Indians posted a low total of 130 runs on the board. Many took to Twitter to voice their opinions, including musician Mick Jagger.
"We knew that it was going to be tough".
On experience in bowling unit: I think cricket is all about experience and inexperience. Steve Smith had everything under control before his countryman Mitchell Johnson dismissed him for 51. Rayudu caught him in the sweeper cover position after completing his half-century.
This is when Bumrah produced a game changing 17th over where he conceded just three runs and also had Dhoni caught behind and Lasith Malinga (0-21) followed it with a seven run 18th over to exert more pressure on Pune.
Johnson, with three for 26 and seamer Jasprit Bumrah, two for 26, kept things tight, however, and RPS failed to accelerate when needed.
As a result, the team won the championship, marking their third win in the IPL.
This was also Mumbai's third Indian Premier League triumph after previously winning it in 2013 and 2015 editions. The victory meant Mumbai Indians became the first team to win the IPL for thrice.
Parthiv not anxious about INDIA selection Parthiv Patel finished the IPL with 395 runs in 16 games emerging as the top run-getter for champions Mumbai Indians besides his contribution behind the stumps.
