Emergency services praised for rapid response to terror attack

At least two people have died after being after reportedly being struck by a van on London Bridge on Saturday night.

Witnesses described hearing shots as police arrested several people in connection with the London Bridge terror attack.

At the time of the attacks - around 10:00 p.m. local time (2100 UTC) - streets around London Bridge and Borough Market were crowded with people enjoying a Saturday night out in the district's fashionable bars and restaurants.

The UK authorities are treating it as a potential terrorism strike with the attack happening just days ahead of its national parliamentary elections.

Mr Chigbo, who spoke with the attacker on Saturday, said: "We were having a general conversation because I am in the process of moving house at the moment".

Khan is expected to join British Prime Minister Theresa May at an emergency meeting of Cobra - the UK's emergency crisis committee - Sunday in response to the attack.

Britain's official terrorism threat level was raised from "severe" to "critical" after the Manchester attack, meaning an attack may be imminent.

Only hours before, bursts of gunfire echoed through the streets - likely from armed police - and at least three blasts rang out as officers performed controlled explosions. "I threw something at them, maybe like a stool, a chair, and as I threw it at them it him one of them, maybe two of them on the head here, on the back", he told the BBC.

Among the wounded are one Spanish citizen and four French people. "He hit about two people in front of me and then three behind".

"A large cordon remains in the area around London Bridge and Borough Market and there are many officers on scene, as we need still to carry out a thorough search of the area to ensure that everyone has been accounted for, and to make the whole area safe".

Alliance Leader Naomi Long has said we must remain strong following the attack.

In response, director of policy at Facebook Simon Milner said: "We want Facebook to be a hostile environment for terrorists".

Both the ruling Conservative Party and the Labour Party said on Sunday they would suspend their national campaigning for the upcoming election for a day.

London Bridge and the adjacent train station, as well as nearby Borough subway station, were still closed.

Alex Shellum at the Mudlark pub said a woman had come into the bar "bleeding heavily from the neck", telling the BBC: "It appeared that her throat had been cut". "I think that's always been our secret sauce here", Warner said. They were stabbing everyone. "Evil, evil people", he told The Guardian newspaper.

"We must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people", Trump wrote on Sunday morning.

Police urged people in the area to "Run, Hide, Tell".

In March, an assailant drove a vehicle into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London, killing two, and then stabbed a police officer to death before being shot to death himself. Police officers yelled at people to run from the area, and blasts were heard as officers performed a series of controlled explosions.
