CARDIFF (CNN) - No team collects European trophies as ruthlessly as Real Madrid

The victory means Real are the first team to successfully defend the trophy in the Champions League era.

Madrid have won the Champions League three times in the last four years and their French forward Karim Benzema said: "It's incredible, to win one, then two, then three!"

Juventus are aiming to become the second Italian club after Inter Milan in 2010 to win the treble, the Serie A, Coppa Italia and the Champions League titles in the same season.

Ronaldo, 32, has now scored 600 career goals for club and country, including 105 in the Champions League, and has finished as the top scorer in the competition for the last 5 seasons.

Cristiano Ronaldo was named man of the match after scoring two goals and becoming the first player to score in three finals. [Gianluigi] Buffon and (Andrea) Barzagli will still be with us next year and they still have a lot to give us.

Cristiano Ronaldo placed a attractive shot into Buffon's net on 20 minutes, but 7 minutes later Mario Mandzukic scored one of the goals of the tournament as he deftly controlled the ball on his chest before lobbing the goalkeeper with an exquisite overhead.

The 27-year-old said of Portuguese playmaker Ronaldo: "Everybody knows that he is very important".

Momentum clearly on their side, Ronaldo added to Real Madrid's advantage minutes later and put the game all but beyond Juventus. We played a great team.

The Italian side were reduced to 10 men with under 10 minutes remaining when substitute Juan Cuadrado was booked for a second time - rather harshly to be honest - for a slight touch off-the-ball on Sergio Ramos.

"People won't be able to criticise me because the numbers don't lie".

Gonzalo Higuain worked Keylor Navas twice, while Miralem Pjanic's snappy half-volley forced the Madrid goalkeeper into a smart one-handed save.

Substitute Marco Asensio scored few minutes he got into the pitch in the 90th minute to complete Juventus annihilation. We're going to have to work very hard to win once again.

Madrid drew first blood in the 20th minute when Ronaldo flicked the ball wide to Dani Carvajal before artfully sweeping the Spaniard's return pass into the bottom-left corner via a nick off Leonardo Bonucci.

However, Real Madrid came smoking in the second half as Casemiro saw his hopeful long ranger take a deflection and beat Buffon.
