The President of the European Commission on Friday urged the European Union and China to lead the way in the fight against climate change by implementing the Paris agreement in full. "I deeply disagree with the decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement and, as a matter of principle, I've resigned from the President's advisory council".
President Donald Trump on Thursday said he will withdraw the United States from the landmark 2015 global agreement to fight climate change, a move that fulfilled a major campaign pledge but drew condemnation from us allies and business leaders. Energy Secretary Rick Perry had voiced support for renegotiating the terms of the agreement, which Trump pledged to do Thursday - but in the aftermath of USA withdrawal, not as an alternative to it.
Merkel, whose country hosts this year's global climate summit, said Trump's decision was "extremely regrettable and that's putting it very mildly".
The Green Fund is created to help poor countries adapt to climate change and bypass some of the heavily polluting technologies formerly used by rich countries. Tim Cook said as much on Thursday in a tweet and company-wide memo after Trump made the withdrawal official. To work together on concrete solutions for our climate, our environment. Economists and analysts who study the cost of climate change, and the truly terrifying outcomes of not acting to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, have found that the agreement would likely save the world an enormous amount of money, as well as preventing an untold toll in human life and well-being.
The US now joins Nicaragua and Syria as the only non-participants to the accord, signed by 195 nations including Washington in Paris in December 2015 to combat climate change.
"Today, the future livability of our planet was threatened by President Trump's careless decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement".
"Considering that the U.S.is the world's second largest emitter of carbon dioxide, its departure could jeopardize the agreement as a whole". "I tell you this evening with great force: we will not renegotiate for a less ambitious agreement".
