National Doughnut Day 2017 Krispy Kreme, Dunkin' offer free treats

Entenmann's: The donut-makers are handing out freebies in New York City's Times Square on Friday. The Army will partner with Yummy's Donut Palace for the event. If you aren't familiar with National Donut Day and why Americans love to celebrate it, don't worry, you soon will be. The "Doughnut Lassies" who served doughnuts to the troops are credited with popularizing the sweet treat in the USA, according to the Salvation Army.

The day commemorates the "donut lassies", female Salvation Army volunteers who provided writing supplies, stamps, clothes-mending, home-cooked meals and of course, donuts, for soldiers on the front lines. For more information, contact Smith at 870-863-4830.
