Veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Wednesday backed his former teammate and current India coach Anil Kumble, whose relations with captain Virat Kohli have reportedly hit a rough patch apparently due to the coach's overbearing attitude. It was seen as some kind of backdoor entry as he was supposed to have been prompted by members of Cricket Advisory Committee of the board, Sachin Tendulkar, Ganguly and VVS Laxman. "I've been at the ground since 8.00 am".
"I frequently speak to the boys", he said to a query on whether he has had discussions with the team on all what has been reported.
A major fire has engulfed Indian cricket even though the acting secretary of the board insists there is no smoke billowing.
What we do know, however, is that the Indian team has, and perhaps always will belong to the captain and not the coach. You need to hear from the right people. It's too early at this stage. The issue could have been settled soon after the series against Australia as Guha mentions in his letter or waited till after the Champions Trophy. "In case there's any truth in the matter, I think that should be the way forward".
"Just deal with it". "After all, if the coach is going to be appointed till the 2019 World Cup, you can't have the captain and the coach not on the same page for so long". I worked with him as chief selector and India coach (in mid-1990s, when Kumble was a player and Patil the coach).
Virat Kohli, who is busy in his CT preparations heard this rumor about Justice Lodha and quickly ran to Anil Kumble's room to patch up with him.
On the other hand, as per media reports, Ganguly met the players at the team hotel in England to ask them about Kumble. Any captain and coach would, and these are two strong personalities, contrasting even. "Yeah, but that's with everything in life", he said. Had he done so, things would not have blown up so dramatically at such an inopportune time. "India are a good side". Maybe they should sit across the table and talk after the India-Pakistan match on June 4, as the interviews will be held on June 5 and 6.
"It's a new day, a new game but still (India is the favourite)". Australia's Tom Moody and New Zealand's Daniel Vettori were also being discussed. The official said that the reason Kumble has been successful was because "the team has been successful" playing cricket mostly at home.
"Everybody faces controversy", he said. Look at (Cristiano) Ronaldo.
"You should not worry about it. Professionals find a way. He's in controversies every week but he still comes out and takes Real Madrid to the Champions League final".
