Following Friday's 14 strikeouts over seven innings, Kershaw will need just three Ks in his next outing to pass Hunter.
Both teams combined for 42 strikeouts, a National League record.
Brewers second baseman Jonathan Villar was the victim of strikeout number 2,000 for Kershaw, who is also a three-time NL Cy Young Award victor and Gold Glove recipient.
Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Neftali Feliz watches as the Dodgers' Cody Bellinger rounds third after hitting a home run during the 12th inning Friday, June 2, 2017, in Milwaukee. He left the game in position for the loss before the Dodgers tied things up in the ninth. Kershaw reached 2,000 strikeouts in 1,837 2/3 career innings, which is the third-fastest in Major League Baseball history behind Pedro Martinez (1,715 1/3) and Randy Johnson (1,734), according to the Dodgers.
Kershaw reached the feat in his 277th game, just behind Hall of Famer Randy Johnson who did it in 262 career contests.
Dodgers: Roberts said that LHP Alex Wood (shoulder) could start throwing by the end of the weekend, and that tests on Wood's AC joint came back negative.
NOTES: Brewers OF Ryan Braun ran on an anti-gravity treadmill Monday for the first time since returning to the disabled list, but there is still no timetable for his return, manager Craig Counsell said. Wood might return for the Dodgers' series next weekend at home against the Reds, Roberts said. Stewart went 2-2 with a 5.79 ERA in seven appearances previous year for the Dodgers. Tests on lefty Adam Liberatore (forearm) revealed no nerve or ligament damage, and Roberts said the reliever would probably be sidelined a couple weeks after going on the 10-day DL on Wednesday.
Right-hander Matt Garza (2-2) goes for the Brewers. Dayton had appeared in six games with OKC, going 0-1 with a save and a 6.35 ERA. In his career, Garza is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 7 strikeouts against the Dodgers.
