Troian Bellisario: My eating disorder was about control

"I've just gotten really good at either ignoring it or choosing to not engage with it.' But it's fantastic that you can have this huge, life-threatening thing be a part of you and still live inside of you, and nearly tame it in a weird way".

Adding, 'I was so indignant and frustrated, and then I realized, 'No, Troian, your job is to be here and say this line. It's her first major project to be released post-Pretty Little Liars, though she wrote the movie before being cast as Spencer Hastings.

Troian Bellisario is more than the awesome star of "Pretty Little Liars" - she's also an inspiration!

So, in an effort to better explain her situation to others, she made a decision to write her very own screenplay, which resulted in the film Feed.

By revisiting her experiences with anorexia, Bellisario not only confronted her past demons, but also worked to reshape the stereotypes that cloud those who suffer from the disease.

Harry Potter actor Tom Felton acts as her twin brother in Feed, which focuses on Olivia and Matthew Grey, twins born into a world of privilege and high expectations. What makes her experience different is that her eating disorder wasn't about being skinny at all.

There's a saying that life imitates art, but in Troian Bellisario's upcoming film, the art imitates her reality.

It is really hard to share a story as serious as this, and we truly respect Troian for opening up about her struggles to help others.

That is why she began writing the screenplay that would become "Feed".

This isn't the first time Bellisario has spoken out about her eating disorder.

Revisiting those memories, she said, was like "feeding the dragon". "I would withhold food or withhold going out with my friends, based on how well I did that day in school", she told the magazine. "One of the things I really wanted the film to explore was that once you have this relationship, once you have this mental illness or this disease, it never really goes away".

Check out the trailer above - the flick will be available on VOD and digital platforms July 18th.
