Musk threatens to quit Trump's advisory council over the Paris climate deal

If the USA withdraws from an agreement that almost 200 other countries are a part of, it would join Nicaragua and Syria as the only other countries that rejects the accord.

In 2015, the Paris deal, drafted within the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and championed by former US President Barack Obama, was signed by 194 countries and ratified by 143 states.

Musk - who serves on three White House economic advisory councils - says he will dump Trump if the President withdraws U.S. support on the major climate change agreement.

During the G7 summit, Trudeau told Trump the world economy was already adjusting to climate change and the real issue was who should lead that process, said the source, who asked for anonymity given the sensitivity of the situation.

Mr Trump said on Wednesday he would make a decision "very soon". She made the comments while participating in a televised debate ahead of the June 8 general election.

Tusk warned Trump on Twitter against such a move as he prepared to host an EU-China summit Friday created to fill the void on climate if the United States withdraws from the landmark 2015 pact. The 2015 accord includes almost 200 nations that agreed to voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions to help fight climate change.

"If someone leaves a void, I guarantee someone will fill it", said Guterres, who went on to explain what consequences such an exit could have for the US.

Bracing for Donald Trump’s decision on whether to pull the U.S. out of the Paris climate accord environmental groups and states opposed to a withdrawal are publicly ramping up their arguments

"Affirmation of the Paris Agreement is not only about the climate: It is also about America being the global leader", Romney tweeted.

Trump promised during his 2016 campaign that he'd withdraw the United States from the deal.

The ambitious agreement calls upon all agreed countries to work to limit global temperature rise no more than 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels.

Russian Federation has also spoken out ahead of Mr Trump's decision with a Kremlin statement saying the Paris agreement would be less effective without the major participants.

China says it will work with the European Union to uphold the worldwide agreement on climate change even if the USA pulls out.

The White House wouldn't confirm or deny reports that Trump plans to back out of the climate deal.

"This would be a reckless move and would signal a complete lack of concern for the world's poorest people by the Trump administration", he said.
