Mr Met gives baseball fans the middle finger

A viral video showed Mr. Met walking down a tunnel at the ballpark and giving the middle finger to the fans.

Thames was in a 1-for-23 funk before collecting two hits in each of his last two games, including a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom that ignited Milwaukee's 7-1 romp on Wednesday.

NY actually benefited from the call when Sogard hit into an inning-ending double play. He got more cheers in the sixth inning, when he launched souvenirs along the first base side.

On a day that featured the latest in a string of weird occurrences involving his ballclub, Collins was tossed in the fourth inning and the Mets lost to the Brewers 2-1 in Thursday's series finale at Citi Field. "We'll joke about it, I mean we didn't get hurt in that inning, so it was good", Flores said. Collins bolted from the bench, argued with crew chief Fieldin Culbreth and was ejected.

For what it's worth, the Mets actually came out ahead from this call, as Sogard grounded into a double play to end the Brewers' bases loaded threat in the fourth inning. "He was trying to get out of the way [and] went the wrong way", Flores said, according to It'd be one thing if it's a hard play. Anderson had a no-hit bid last Saturday until Nick Ahmed's leadoff single in the eighth at Arizona, setting career highs with 11 strikeouts and 114 pitches in seven-plus innings during a 6-1 win.

Wheeler ultimately coaxed an inning-ending double play from Sogard once the at-bat resumed.

In a moment that reportedly ended up costing a person portraying Mr. Met their job - but effectively summed up the team's disappointing start - the Mets' mascot gave the finger to some fans at Citi Field on Wednesday. Franklin had an RBI single, right before Anderson's bunt hit.

Technically, Mr. Met only has four fingers so he does not have a middle finger, although his gesture made it pretty clear what his message to the fans was.

The Mets apologized after the incident, saying the offending employee won't work in the costume again. They quickly deleted it, but it's unclear who put it there.

And in 2001, Robbie the Bobby, mascot for Bury Football Club, was sent off for mooning Stoke City fans. Settling in for the start of a 162-game baseball season is, in its purest moments, like slapping on a virtual reality headset that lets us live through the ups and downs of remote players with alien talents and temperaments as a kind of group therapy. He has held opponents hitless in their last 22 at-bats with runners in scoring position.
