Zidane: "The players were f*****g fantastic"

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said clinching the La Liga title with Sunday evening's 2-0 win at Malaga had brought what was the "best day of my professional life".

The Costa Rica worldwide kept a clean sheet as Madrid recorded a 2-0 win at Malaga on Sunday, capturing the LaLiga crown for the first time since 2012.

It only took Cristiano Ronaldo about 90 seconds to score Real Madrid's first point.

Barcelona, chasing a third straight title and their fourth in five years, finished second on 90 points after coming from two goals down to beat Eibar 4-2 at home.

Last season's champions Barcelona finally received their trophy in late October, during the official La Liga gala prize-winning ceremony.

Real needed only to avoid defeat at the La Rosaleda Stadium to win their first league title since the 2011/12 season.

After losing the Clasico to Barcelona in April Real won their last six games in a row.

And Zidane said the sense of achievement surpassed that which he experienced as a Madrid player, when he won La Liga in 2002-03 and the Champions League in 2001-02 among a number of domestic and European honours. Atletico were eventually presented with the trophy only in the first month of the following season. There are no words to define how I feel now", "When you're the Real Madrid coach you know that expectations are very high but I like that. He repeated the feat of Jose Mourinho in 2012, when he led the team to victory in the Spanish league.

"It was a very closely-fought league and we have been rewarded for all our consistency, hard work and sacrifice during the season", Real captain Sergio Ramos said in an interview with Spanish television.

"When people talk about me they get it wrong, inside and outside of football - football critics don't worry me because I know doing the analysis, people will shut up".

On-field footage shows Luka Modric in a state of disbelief over not getting a chance to lift the trophy, while Cristiano Ronaldo bluntly says to Gareth Bale, "It's a f***ing joke".
