Portland, ore. Unease about white supremacy grows after stabbings

"As much as I can, in whatever way I can". He died at a hospital from his wounds.

As he made his way off the stopped train onto the Hollywood station platform, Christian picked up a bag left by one of the two teens he'd been threatening, tossing it onto Interstate 84 as he left the station.

Jeremy Joseph Christian threatened to "decapitate" people and wished the 3 victims he stabbed would die, court documents show. Two men were killed.

The suspect, Jeremy Joseph Christian, a 35-year-old convicted felon, faces charges including aggravated murder, attempted murder, intimidation and being a felon in possession of a restricted weapon.

He made repeated outbursts in court.

"I hope they all die", Christian said, according to the affidavit.

A group of about 20 people or so gathered outside the courtroom Tuesday and could be heard yelling things like "bigot" and "murderer" throughout the proceedings. "Get out if you don't like free speech!"

"If we want to be that city, we need to understand that we must make sure everybody knows this is their town", he said.

Christian's criminal records also showed a number of felonies dating back to 2002, including first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping.

In the squad vehicle, police recorders captured statements by Christian, the affidavit said according to Willamette Week. Around 2.35 pm, a man who identified himself only as a friend of the suspect, emerged from the courtroom and was immediately confronted by the crowd who yelled, "you're a Nazi" and "where's your pride now?"

Christian fled the area, but witnesses followed him and were able to give police directions to his location.

KK eventually got up and move to the other side of the train, she said.

He told jailers he has no permanent address.

Namkai Meche's family members could not be reached for comment.

"I can die in prison a happy man".

He was treated for his injuries and released by the hospital.

"Their actions were courageous and selfless and should serve as an example and inspiration to us all", said Wheeler.

She urged Trump to condemn acts of violence that result from hate speech and hate groups. She says such a step would deeply honor her son's sacrifice. Christian also wounded Micah David-Cole Fletcher, 21, a third person who tried to intervene. One of the women was wearing a hijab.

"There have been skinheads in that region forever", said Heidi Beirich, spokeswoman for the law center.

Back in high school, he won a citywide Portland Public Schools poetry slam. The two men had been killed, police said, after they tried to calm down a MAX train passenger who had been yelling anti-Muslim slurs at two teenage girls on an otherwise typical Friday afternoon commute.

As ThinkProgress notes, it is not the first time that the Muslim community has reached out to raise money for victims of tragedy. Three other men on the train intervened before police say Christian attacked them, killing two and wounding one.

After being called out for two days of silence, President Donald Trump on Monday said in a statement via his official Twitter: "The violent attacks in Portland on Friday are unacceptable".

Their willingness to help others - to stand up against bigotry and hate - hopefully will serve as an inspiration in these increasingly tense and troubled times. "Our prayers are w/ them".
