Packers release punter Jacob Schum

Schum played in all 16 games and three postseason contests for the Packers last season after being claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 30, 2016.

Just seconds after we at APC published an article discussing the Green Bay Packers' signing of rookie fourth-round draft pick Jamaal Williams, the Packers made that signing official.

Green Bay released Jacob Schum, who played in every game past year for the Packers, on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the Packers signed LB Vince Biegel, a Wisconsin native who played for UW.

The Packers have released three punters over the a year ago. In 2015, Tim Masthay once again set the franchise record for net punting average (40.2 yards), giving him the top five spots on the chart and a Packers-best career net of 38.7 yards. Critically, opponents returned 28.6 percent of his punts, the lowest rate in the league.

This move leaves undrafted rookie Justin Vogel as the lone punter on the Packers' roster. He was also tied for 27th with only 19 punts downed inside the 20-yard line.
