Fox & Friends buddies up with Jared Kushner

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein then appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel overseeing the Russian Federation investigation.

It said he has been building a team, designing a budget and forcing the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to withhold from Congress any documents he may be interested in - all in just a week on the job.

In any case, the investigation into Russian interference in the presidential election - and possible collusion by Trump's campaign - is now at the door of the Oval Office and inside the Trump family. The House Oversight Committee and the senate Judiciary Committee are also pursuing inquiries.

Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday attributed President Trump's successful foreign trip to his son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner's foreign relationships. On Tuesday morning, Axios broke the news that White House Communications Director Mike Dubke had resigned from his post on May 18, a little more than a week after the firing. At the meeting, Kushner reportedly "discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump's transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring". Numerous voters said that they want to see those proceedings even if Mr Trump hasn't committed the "high crimes and misdemeanours" that the Constitution requires.

For Trump, the ambitious portfolio was a show of confidence in Kushner's ability, a confidence that had grown steadily since he married Ivanka in 2009. Really? Much of the value of back-channel communications lies in secrecy. I would not be concerned about it.

It contradicted a May 26 Washington Post report that claimed Kushner offered a back channel to the Russians during an early December meeting at Trump Tower. Flynn was sacked as national security adviser in February after it was revealed that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence and the public about whether, in a December 29 conversation with Kislyak, he discussed easing anti-Russia sanctions after Trump's inauguration.

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly speaks with ABC's "This Week" with Martha Raddatz on Sunday, May 28, 2017. "But it's the Russians who tried to destroy the fundamental of democracy and that is to change the outcome of an American election", he alleged. There's no reason for readers to accept the story at face value, but it's worth interrogating - as Fox does not - who might want to be pushing this version of the Kushner meeting into the news cycle. The newspaper cited anonymous USA officials who were briefed on intelligence reports on intercepted Russian communications.

Which brings us to Jared Kushner, who is both a senior adviser to Trump and the President's son-in-law.

David Ignatius is a columnist with the Washington Post Writers Group. However, Fox News filed a report on Monday that directly conflicts with that characterization of the meeting.

"It is my opinion that numerous leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media", he tweeted on Sunday morning, adding minutes later: "Whenever you see the words "sources say" in the fake news media, and they don't mention names ... it is very possible that those sources don't exist but are made up by fake news writers".
