May 31-Orange and Sullivan counties have received $429,000 in federal funding given for improvements to local airports.
Two Indiana airports will receive millions of dollars in grant money from the Federal Aviation Administration.
For all the grants announced Wednesday, the FAA covers 90 percent of the projects' cost, with the state paying 5 percent and the airport owner paying the other 5 percent. It will be used for renovations and improvements in 36 projects at facilities in the Hudson Valley, Albany area, Southern Tier and central, western and northern NY.
"Making sure our airports are clear for takeoff is essential for the safety of air travelers and the smooth functioning of the local economy", said Senator Schumer.
A total of $2.67 million goes to Westchester County for five individual airport projects. "Investing in our airport infrastructure ensures the safe and efficient operation of our air transportation system", FAA Administrator Michael P. Huerta said of the grants.
