Arsenal set to announce decision on Wenger future on Wednesday afternoon

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey is hopeful that Arsene Wenger will extend his stay at the club beyond the summer having picked up a record seventh FA Cup title. "It's been an up and down year but to finish with an FA Cup, it has to be deemed a success".

The German World Cup victor had not started a game all season but was called upon for the final against Chelsea after suspension and injury decimated Arsenal's defence.

"It's down to the board members if I am the right man to lead this club further", the 67-year-old Frenchman said.

"I believe that I just want to do well for this club and apart from that I think it's down to the board members".

Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker lifted the FA Cup for the Gunners on Saturday before insisting any criticism aimed his way only makes him a better player. "You can not be in this job (if you are not forgiving)".

Chile global forward Alexis Sanchez put Arsene Wenger's side in the lead in the fourth minute, and although Spain worldwide striker Diego Costa equalised for the Blues in the 76th minute, Wales worldwide midfielder Aaron Ramsey wrapped up the win for the Gunners just minutes later. "The only bit of advice I have for young coaches, if you have a tendency to be paranoid don't do this job".

"I am convinced we were hurt by the uncertainty about my future with the players", Wenger said. I accept to be criticised and I accept people don't agree with me.

The 28-year-old has had an impressive season for the Gunners - despite an unconvincing year for the team as whole.

"Next season for sure we must pay great attention to understand that we have to improve", he said.

Just as the season reached its climax, Arsenal turned in the type of tenacious display lacking so often, and against a side so commanding in the Premier League in Antonio Conte's first season in charge. "Numbers in the squad and also quality".

Wenger added: "Once the game starts and you are a fan, you stand behind the team, that is what I have not accepted this season and I will never accept it".

"It's a pity that we didn't win the FA Cup, but don't forget we had a big (performance) to arrive here and we must be proud of this".
