Tom Cruise confirms Top Gun 2 is happening soon

Past year the action star shared a photo of him and producer Jerry Bruckheimer with a caption that suggested they were talking about the possibility of filming Top Gun 2.

Mumbai: The 54-year-old-actor confirmed that a sequel to the 1986 classic "Top Gun" is happening and might start filming "probably in the next year".

"You're the first people I've said this to", Cruise reveals.

"It's an iconic that [Cruise] helped create, so I think we would like to see what happened to Maverick for the last 30 years", Bruckheimer added.

Even some time back Cruise made it clear on "The Graham Norton Show" that they are trying their best so that they would move forward with the movie.

"Top Gun 2: please say it's true", said the host.

"It's true", Cruise said, according to USA Today.

Cruise, who is now promoting his upcoming re-boot of The Mummy, has been dodging questions about the long-discussed sequel to the 1986 film for years.

Word has it that producer David Ellison may also be involved, having worked with Cruise on the "Mission: Impossible" movie "Rogue Nation" and "Ghost Protocol", as well as the Jack Reacher series.

If Top Gun 2 is indeed next on Cruise's to-do list-he's now working on the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise-it could hit theaters in 2020 or 2021. "I'd love to work on it if we can figure it out". Other plot details are vague but Val Kilmer has gone on record that he was asked to come back to reprise the role of Iceman opposite Cruise's Maverick. "It's happening." Be prepared for a film full of action and humor, with the highly praised and successful star, Tom Cruise.

That's good news for fans of the hit 1986 film Top Gun, which has grossed more than $356.8 million to date.
