Earlier, Modi, on a day-long visit to the state, was received by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Governor Banwarilal Purohit and other dignitaries on his arrival at the airport.
- The Dhola-Sadiya bridge is longer than the Bandra-Worli Sea Link (5.6 km) in Mumbai by almost two-thirds. It will also cater to the strategic and defence requirements of the country in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh, which shares border with China.
The 9.15 km Dhola-Sadiya bridge is set to reduce travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
Indian media have made much of the fact that the bridge has been built to support the weight of a 60-tonne tank.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the festival from Guwahati in Assam.
The total length of the Dhola-Sadiya Bridge project, including the approach roads on each side, is 28.50 km.
The PM began his first public address on the third anniversary of his NDA government by slamming the previous Congress-led UPA government for "long delays" in infrastructure projects, including on this bridge project. "Within one year of BJP rule in Assam, the state is getting rid of a lot of problems", he said.
The Prime Minister, while marking three years of his government, said that he plans to double the income of farmers over the next five years.
"The bridge will not only minimise the distance between Assam and Arunachal by 165km, it will also save Rs10 lakh everyday on diesel". He said that good connectivity in the North-East will also link the region with the economy of South-East Asia.
He described the bridge as not just Assam's pride, but the country's pride. To be constructed at a cost of Rs 1,123 cr as part of "Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana", the unit is expected to be completed within the next four years.
- Since northeast is in a high-seismic region, the bridge has been provided seismic buffers in all its 182 piers.
