Trump has said he could name a new director before he leaves Friday on his first overseas trip as president.
On Thursday Trump said his top choice for the position was Lieberman and he would make an announcement "very soon".
Gore and Lieberman narrowly lost the disputed 2000 election to Republican George W Bush, and the CT senator mounted his own unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in 2004. Among the four candidates which he interviewed for the objective at White House, Joe Lieberman was his great choice.
President Trump may be dramatically miscalculating how much support former Sen. He was the Democratic Party's nominee for vice president in 2000, and Connecticut's attorney general before being first elected to the Senate in 1988.
"Joe Lieberman has more experience than all of my Democrat colleagues combined, so screw them", McCain said of Democrats' concerns. On Wednesday, it was reported that Trump was considering four candidates for the job. "President Trump is keeping his promise", Lieberman, the former chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, told Business Insider in an interview.
When asked if Lieberman was his top pick, the president said "yes". Not because we don't respect Joe Lieberman.
Lieberman served in the Senate from 1989 to 2013.
Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) said the same on Capitol Hill Friday, telling reporters that Lieberman is a "wonderful man", but Trump should steer clear of politics in his Federal Bureau of Investigation hiring.
Opposition Democrats immediately accused Trump of seeking to impede the FBI's investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, which extended to activities of White House national security advisor Michael Flynn, who was sacked in February for making misleading statements about his Russian contacts. If confirmed, Lieberman would be in charge of the agency conducting a criminal investigation into Trump's presidential campaign. He did not seek re-election in 2012.
"I think the process is going to go quickly". He has served as co-chairman of No Labels, a centrist group that promotes bipartisanship.
He was the lead agent on the Oklahoma City federal building bombing case in 1995, when Keating was governor, and he was the FBI's on-scene commander after the September 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon.
Trump will also meet with former Connecticut Sen.
Several other candidates have withdrawn from consideration: Rep. Trey Gowdy of SC and Sen.
