An official announcement is expected to come from the club on Wednesday, according to the BBC.
"I had the same thing in Spain when I won the league and then lost the Champions League".
Fabregas was roundly jeered by the Arsenal half of Wembley as he made his way on to the pitch, but he has backed former boss Arsene Wenger to continue, with the Frenchman's future set to be decided at a board meeting on Tuesday.
"They've just had a fantastic FA Cup win after an unbelievable 20 years". Having finished in a shocking 10th position last season, Chelsea have gone from villians to hero's in the eyes of their fans this year, notching up an impressive 93 points in the bag, winning themselves the Premier League title. "I'm especially proud of the way we won this season because in the semi-final we had to play against Man City here, in the final against Chelsea here, and you cannot get tougher and we had two outstanding performances so this cup was won with a special spirit and special attitude", he said.
Wenger added: "Once the game starts and you are a fan, you stand behind the team, that is what I have not accepted this season and I will never accept it. I think I have shown you that I have exactly the same commitment".
The Daily Mirror's chief football writer John Cross, author of "Arsene Wenger: The Inside Story Of Arsenal Under Arsene Wenger", first covered the club for Islington Gazette and has covered his reign through 20 years as a national reporter.
"I believe there's a difference between being criticised and being treated in a way that human beings don't deserve", he said.
Arsène Wenger has claimed that his future as Arsenal manager will be decided later this week. I love sport, I give 24 hours a day for what I love and all the rest - I am in a public job, some agree with me, some do not. I just want to do well for this club and, after that, it is down to the board members to decide if I am the right man to take this club further and for me to decide if I'm the right man, that is it. I know my mind.
And yet Arsenal still ended the campaign with a cup victory that Wenger puts on a par with his last EPL success in the unbeaten 2003-04 season.
