Adam Wingard to direct Godzilla vs. Kong

Godzilla vs. Kong was recently moved up a week from May 29 to May 22, 2020.

KongEarlier this year, we saw the release of Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga and Millie Bobby Brown, is now in production.

One might think that the middling critical reception and box-office returns of Blair Witch would put director Adam Wingard-who's achieved great critical acclaim, if not box-office dominance, with original concepts-off of franchise filmmaking for good. Terry Rossio, known for writing the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies, will write the screenplay.

Like those individuals, Wingard has cut his teeth on mostly low budget and indie features to date, and nearly primarily in the horror genre. Other scribes scribbling included team Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne (Star Trek Beyond), Lindsey Beer, Cat Vasko, Maze Runner movies writer T.S. Nowlin, Jack Paglen (Johnny Depp's Transcendence), and "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski.

Wingard has strong horror roots with movies such as A Horrible Way to Die and entries in anthologies V/H/S and The ABCs of Death.

Plot details are being kept hidden on a South Pacific atoll.

Godzilla vs. Kong is now scheduled for release on May 22, 2020.

As for Wingard, he's another inspired choice in what's turning into a strong line-up of directors for this MonsterVerse, which also includes films from Gareth Edwards, Jordan Vogt-Roberts and soon, Michael Dougherty. Wingard's next project, a live-action adaptation of Death Note, will premiere on Netflix on August 25.
