There's no question that, since the last time these two teams met in the postseason, the Warriors have gotten a lot more deadly-have become the kind of team that seems highly unlikely, for instance, to blow a 3-1 lead.
And while Durant has been a huge factor in why the Warriors have looked so deadly, Stephen Curry deserves his fair praise.
An NBA season that has had little in the way of drama will come to a gripping close over the next two weeks when two familiar foes fittingly battle in the Finals for an unprecedented third consecutive year.
The Spurs were the best defensive team in the National Basketball Association this season and the Warriors treated them like orange cones scattered on the practice court for mid-summer shooting drills. Golden State is the first team to enter the NBA Finals with a flawless 12-0 mark. It may be that the talented Warriors can easily chalk up 114 points, for instance, but playing against the Cavaliers with solid emphasis on defense things will not be easy offensively. Will the Cavs bring home back-to-back championships, or will Golden State redeem themselves after blowing a 3-1 lead past year? "So he's finding ways to impact the game even when his shooting is not up to par".
After Curry's turnover, his team scored just one basket-a layup by Thompson-for the remainder of the game. In the series as a whole, Curry posted numbers of 22.6 points per game, 40 percent shooting and 40 percent from beyond the arc. With the addition of Durant, Golden State still managed to finish with the best record in the regular season, only losing 15 games.
Kyrie Irving has also reached a higher plane these playoffs, even after last season's remarkable performance late in the series to help the Cavs rally from a 3-1 deficit.
But these Finals mean more to one particular player than anyone. That's coming from the same guy who hit 12 threes in a game earlier in the season. Of course not. Are you going to be excited about it, have an unbelievable feeling if you win? "Granted, Kawhi Leonard missed the last three-and-a-half games, and the Cavaliers" defensive effort often rises and falls with the stakes. Right now he's not the best player on his team.
In fact, the least expensive 2017 NBA Finals game, so far, appears to be Game 3 in Cleveland, the first home matchup for the Cavaliers.
Is this the best team that LeBron has ever faced in the Finals?
"The two best teams is what you want".
