Tiger Woods charged with DUI in Florida

Golf star Tiger Woods was arrested on a drink-driving charge in Florida early on Monday morning, police say.

Tiger Eldrick Woods appears in a booking photo released by Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office in Palm Beach, Florida, U.S., on Monday.

According to Palm Beach County police, he was arrested at 3am, booked into jail around 7am and released at 10.50am.

No other details have been made available at this time.

Rist said Woods needs support at a time like this. The PGA Tour told CNN it would not comment on the arrest.

The 41-year-old has been recovering from recent back surgery and last blogged about his health on 24 May.

America's 14-time major champion came back after 15 months out injured in December, but has not played since his back problems recurred in February.

He said in a statement last month: "The surgery went well, and I'm optimistic this will relieve my back spasms and pain".

Woods was taken into custody near his home on Jupiter Island, Florida.

In an update on Friday on his website, Woods said the fusion surgery provided instant relief and he has not "felt this good in years". "I am concentrating on short-term goals".

Woods, once widely expected to surpass Jack Nicklaus s record of 18 major championships, hasn t won a grand slam title since the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines.

This isn't the first holiday that's been marred for Woods. It's just a matter of not screwing up and letting it fuse. In November 2009, the golfer was taken to a hospital after he was injured in a vehicle accident in front of his Orlando, Florida, home.
