Tall Blacks draw host nation at Asia Cup in August

Gilas Pilipinas is bound to show what it is really made of as the Philippines is tied with the defending champions China.

New Zealand, another Oceania country, found itself in Group C with Kazakhstan, Korea, and Lebanon, which as host country had the option of choosing which bracket to play in. Gilas finished second to China in the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship.

The FIBA Asia Cup 2017 will take place in Lebanon from 8-20 August, and the victor will go on to rule the continent for the next four years.

DRAWN. For the first time, New Zealand and Australia will be participating the FIBA Asia Cup.

Powerhouse Australia, meanwhile, will make its debut in the Fiba Asia this year with a stint in Group D where it will face East Asian nations Japan, Hong Kong, and Chinese Taipei. Every team will take on three opponents in the respective group.

Instead of competing against each other in the Oceania region, Australia and New Zealand have joined the Asian region, which will mean they have a more regular schedule of worldwide action.

The teams will play in a round-robin format, with the top three teams from each group advancing into the next round. Group A is composed of Syria, India, Jordan, and Iran.

From then on, the teams will figure in knockout matches in the quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals until the best team in Asia has been decided.
