Trump's Israel Trip Was 'the Moment' to Announce Embassy Relocation, Lawmaker Says

Israel and the Palestinians have not held direct talks for more than three years and Trump acknowledged it was "one of the toughest deals of all".

"Abbas and Netanyahu promised to do all they can and I look forward to working on lasting peace with these leaders", Trump said.

The U.S. president arrived in Israel on Monday after a two-day visit to Saudi Arabia, where Trump said King Salman assured him Riyadh wants peace between the Israelis and Palestinians.

A day after U.S. President Donald Trump departed from Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Trump's commitment to Israel is not just a slogan.

More than 400,000 Israelis live in settlements on the West Bank which are considered illegal under global law and a major obstacle to Middle East peace.

Trump, in Bethlehem, vowed to do "everything I can" to bring peace to the Middle East, echoing sentiments of several of his predecessors who tried and failed to achieve the same goal.

Abbas stressed the Palestinian position regarding a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders and a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

"Our fundamental problem is with the occupation and settlements, and failure of Israel to recognise the state of Palestine in the same way we recognise it, which undermines the realisation of the two-state solution", Abbas said.

In the first public comment by an Israeli official on the $110-billion US sale of ships, tanks and the latest anti-missile systems to the kingdom, Lieberman said he had expressed his concerns in recent talks with US National Security Advisor HR McMaster.

"From the Palestinian leadership's perspective, I don't think their definition of peace fits within what most of us at least here in Congress and in the United States would define as peace". He's also backed away from his campaign pledge to move the US Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

President Donald Trump's visit to the Middle East seems to have highlighted the importance of the relationship between the United States and Israel to the current administration, even if no breakthroughs in peace negotiations are expected anytime soon. "Mr. President, I extend my hand to you to be your partner in this noble mission".

"Palestinians are ready to reach for peace", Trump said.

As the Trump's disembarked Air Force One in Italy Melania wasn't interested in the US President's touch.

President Trump was the first US president to visit the Western Wall.
