White House mum on new Kushner allegations in Russian Federation probe

She said Mr Kushner could not remember any calls with Mr Kislyak before the election.

Kislyak, according to The Post, told higher-ups in Moscow that Kushner suggested the proposal in a December meeting at Trump Tower - which former national security adviser Michael Flynn also attended.

Speaking generally, national security adviser HR McMaster said "we have back channel communications with a number of countries..."

Late Friday night, a report came out that Jared Kushner - Donald Trump's son-in-law and closest White House adviser - had at least three undisclosed contacts with a Russian ambassador during and after the 2016 Presidential campaign.

While US government departments do set up secure lines with foreign leaders, it is unusual for a transition team to do so, Washington Post reports.

White House silent on Kushner "communications channel" reportsThe White House was declining comment Saturday about news reports that President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner, attempted to set up a secret communications channel with Moscow.

Mr Kislyak was said to have told his superiors that he was "taken aback" by the suggestion of using Russian facilities - the aim being making the conversations more hard to monitor - for the line that was meant to be used to be to discuss Syria and other policy issues. CBS News reported earlier this week that Mr. Trump asked top intelligence officials to defend him against claims that his campaign collaborated with the Russian government. Kushner's attorney, Jamie Gorelick, told Reuters that Kushner "has no recollection of the calls as described".

"We're not going to comment on Jared", Cohn said.

The revelations in the Washington Post sent the White House into lockdown mode as Trump prepared for his return to Washington after a week-long trip to the Middle East and Europe. "What that allows you to do is communicate in a discreet manner so I'm not concerned". A DNC statement said: "The FBI's Russian Federation investigation reached Trump's backyard, and now it's in his house".

Earlier, Kushner was named in news reports as a focus of the FBI investigation into alleged Russian tampering with the US election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

In addition, Reuters reported that Kushner had at least three previously undisclosed contacts with Kislyak previous year, including two phone calls between April and November.

As the feds close in, and the special counsel appointed to investigate Trump's Russian Federation ties continues to widen their probe in addition to the work the Federal Bureau of Investigation is doing, it's now becoming painfully clear: Jared Kushner is fucked. "The answer to that is a big yes".

Federal investigators are looking into meetings Kushner held in December with Russia's ambassador and a banker from Moscow, CBS News' Scott Pelley reported on "CBS Evening News" on Thursday.

"Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings". "He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry".
