Sunder, who has just played five first-class games for his south Indian state of Tamil Nadu, struck twice in his opening over including the prized scalp of opposition skipper Rohit Sharma (1).
MI were the first team to book a playoff berth. The victor of this match goes straight into the final, the loser will have another shot at getting there. Though they were kept in the hunt for a while by Parthiv Patel, they eventually fell 20 runs short of the target. Mumbai have lost just four matches out of their 14 this season and with their fierce batting line-up they will look to be aggressive from ball one.
Pune have won 3 of 4 Maha derby games vs Mumbai but play-offs could be a different proposition.
On the other hand, Pune will be unsettled in the absence of two of their MVPs this season. Another blow for RPS will be to lose Ben Stokes, their valuable player, in the crucial stage of the tournament.
Both sides are equally matched with regards to form and team combination.
MI's bowling highly depends on pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is in India's ICC Champions Trophy squad.
In the first four overs of the chase, Parthiv Patel (57) hit three sixes but Lendl Simmons' (5) 13-ball vigil ended when he was run out at the non strikers end after a deflection from the bowler Shardul Thakur (3-37). But it remains to be seen how they go about in the face of pressure, should MI get off to a blistering start that they are well capable of. Steven Smith and Rahul Tripathi have masked their inadequacies to an extent, but the former hasn't been converting his starts into substantial contributions with his last half-century coming seven innings ago.
Considering that the Wankhede track will be batting friendly, it is expected to be another high-scoring affair. This is the advantage that the teams get when they finish in the top 2 position in the league.
Rahane, who did not score big in the league stage, was determined to make an impact on the big stage. They are also the first team to have beaten Mumbai both times in this edition of the IPL while holding an edge at Wankhede stadium too. So, the RPS need to find the flawless replacement on upcoming matches. Lockie Ferguson and Usman Khawaja were two names that Ajinkya Rahane mentioned as possible replacements, but the England cricketer's all-round skills would be sorely missed, unless Dan Christian can step up a notch with the bat.
