"The Skyscraper", 7-foot tall Stefan Struve (32-8-0) will face 6-foot-7 former Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander "Drago" Volkov (28-6-0) in the UFC's return to the Netherlands. The headlining act was announced earlier today (Sat., May 27, 2017) by UFC officials. In what was the co-main event of UFC FIGHT NIGHT®: OVEREEM vs. ARLOVSKI, Struve knocked out Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in round one, securing him a Fight of the Night bonus and an explosive reaction from Dutch fans inside the Rotterdam Ahoy.
The former Brazilian UFC heavyweight champ comes off of a nasty first round knockout loss to current champ Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 211 from Dallas, Texas.
Cain's last fight was against Travis Browne, whom he defeated via first-round TKO a year ago at UFC 200.
Most recently, Volkov dispatched former "Ultimate Fighter" victor Roy Nelson in a lopsided decision, and now he'll get his first chance to main event in the UFC in September. With the heavyweight division needing some clarity in the back half of the top ten, a huge fight like this will do nicely.
So, this is a pivotal match-up in the heavyweight division. Fighting in his backyard in Holland, Struve hopes a win will put him back in the top 10 in hopes of making a run at the heavyweight title.
Stay tuned as more fights get announced in the coming weeks.
