Stenson in touch with 1st-round leader Stenson at Wentworth

Famed Wentworth Club-West Course will be hosting its 37th BMW PGA Championship and its 34th in succession, dating back to 1984.

The changes were designed in accordance with feedback given by European Tour players to Paul McGinley and he played an advisory role in the most recent alterations to the historic course.

"I don't like this golf course". "It's a very hard golf course, especially now it's been redesigned". The greens are firm, they are fast.

The £5million renovation programme started just eight days after Chris Wood's victory past year, with all 18 greens stripped of their old turf and reseeded with a new type of grass.

Four greens were completely reconstructed and another five partially rebuilt, with 29 bunkers removed and a sub-air system as used at Augusta National was installed.

That would mean the USA major being played in the same month as the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship, which starts at Wentworth on Thursday.

Stenson, who won the British Open at Troon last summer, missed three cuts in the United States before finishing tied for 16th at the Players' Championship at Sawgrass and did not get his round going until the back nine.

" It has been pretty much a flagship event for a very long time". It's the home of the Tour. "Any bogey-free round is great and to do it here at Wentworth is better still". "From just a perspective of planning, there wasn't any planning I could really do. I'm personally very pleased that it has been changed". "You know, when I was in there with her and listening to how she thinks, it's incredible what you can learn from somebody that plays at her level".

"I gave myself a lot of chances coming in".

Ian Poulter is seeking glory at the BMW PGA Championship as a way to seal his U.S. Open place, as he remains unsure whether he would like to go through the qualifying process. Johann's a good friend of mine and he's caddied on the PGA Tour for a number of years, and he caddied for me four years ago or so. "And when you're in a good frame of mind, generally good things happen". He's also been finding some decent from on the PGA Tour but he always enjoys heading back to the comfort of the European Tour.

He has nearly 10 times the money he had banked by the equivalent stage a year ago, but in a move that shows he will not bow to complacency nor allow his ambitions to be restricted, he and his family - wife Laura and daughters Jessica, five, and Olivia, two - are now living in Spain.

"If that's the case we are going to have to look at everything".
