Package that led to Newark airport evacuation deemed safe

Port Authority Police have given an all-clear after parts of Newark Airport were evacuated due to an unattended pressure cooker. Police said travelers should expect delays.

Newark Liberty on this holiday weekend, filled with people, when authorities found a suspicious package.

Authorities initially cleared the area around 4:30 p.m., but later said the package was found not to be a threat and reopened the terminal.

Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 NY that it was found in an area before passengers are screened.

"No one seemed freaked out, everyone seemed calm", Ryan Lozano, from Astoria, told NBC New York. The bomb squad has reportedly arrived at the airport. K-9 units and local police were also on the scene. "Updates to follow", the Port Authority tweeted at 5:20 p.m.
