Mother of Uber CEO Travis Kalanick killed in boat accident

CEO Travis Kalanick's parents were in a boating accident in Fresno yesterday and his mother Bonnie Horowitz Kalanick has passed away.

A sheriff's office helicopter spotted the couple, but by the time rescuers reached them, Bonnie was found dead.

Mrs Kalanick, 71, and her husband were found on the shore of Pine Flat Lake by the emergency services.

Uber identified the couple as the Kalanicks.

The company, in a statement on Saturday, called the incident an "unspeakable tragedy" and said that Kalanick's father remains in a "serious condition".

Donald Kalanick was being treated at an area hospital for what were described as moderate injuries. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Travis and his family in this heartbreaking time". This is an unthinkable tragedy as everyone in the Uber family knows how incredibly close Travis is to his parents.

Mr Kalanick hit the headlines earlier this year when he was filmed swearing at one of his company's drivers.

Officials have said the boat is still under water, with authorities still trying to find where it sunk according to YourCentralValley.com.

"An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday". Donald was transported to Community Regional Medical Center where he is expected to survive.

The company has since grown to become an global operation with a market value of almost $70 billion.
