The Ohio woman accused of shooting and killing two of her three children said she did it to "save them from the evils of the world", according to court documents.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office confirmed they had the bodies of the Helton children, but they would not release their times of death. According to an affidavit, Claudena Helton admitted to police that she'd shot her 8 and 6-year-old in the head, WLOS reports.
The children's mother, Claudena Marie Helton, 30, was arrested after the shootings Thursday and interviewed by Dayton police detectives.
When police arrived at the home, they discovered Khmorra and Kaiden in the front yard suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say she may have mental health problems.
Authorities said an 11-year-old daughter who was home at the time wasn't hurt.
Helton appeared via teleconference Monday afternoon in Montgomery County Court, a judge set her bond at $1 million.
Their mother, Helton, is facing felonious assault and attempted aggravated murder charges at this point. Neighbors say they are heartbroken and shocked.
The county's child welfare agency has said it has a previously existing case involving the family.
