Manchester City romp to win at Watford to ensure third place

Pep Guardiola doubtless has his eye on a quicker and even more attacking replacement but City will struggle to find a player as simpatico with the club.

Sergio Aguero scored twice to make it 33 goals for the season in all competitions - his most prolific season since joining City in 2011 - with Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus also netting at Vicarage Road.

City supporters have been concerned about Aguero's future, especially after Gabriel Jesus's arrival at the Etihad Stadium, but Guardiola has stated that the forward will continue at the club next term.

Chelsea, with their Brazilian manager, had been trying to buy the Real Madrid striker themselves, but on the deadline day on which Dimitar Berbatov joined Manchester United from Spurs, City set a transfer record by paying £32.5m for a player who would appear for them only 41 times in an 18-monthstay.

"They improved a lot, Vincent playing eight or nine games in a row and we saw something special with him, so I can imagine when City won the league, one of the major reasons was Vincent".

"We are satisfied because we are in the Champions League".

"But when you play for something on last weekend of the season it is complicated, there is always pressure, there is no second chance".

"When Real Madrid and Barcelona want a player, other teams can not compete", he said. "We need to be really focused in the key moments in the boxes, both for us and against us".

City go into the game in good heart after sweeping West Brom aside with a convincing 3-1 win on Tuesday.

"But to achieve the next step, the gap is shorter but it's more hard - to compete head to head against the big clubs in Europe, Real, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus".

Even a draw will ensure City participate in the coveted league, but it could mean they drop down to the fouth spot if Liverpool manage to beat Middlesbrough at home by three goals.

His positive mood belied comments by Guardiola earlier this week, when he said he would have been sacked by former clubs Bayern Munich and Barcelona for the season he has just had.

We'll see what happens next season.

"While we had a complete squad we were fighting for seventh place, reached 40 points and were 10th".

"I gave everything and with such a hard situation a less experienced manager would have done worse". The players used to run six kilometres a game, now it is 12 kilometres.
